The North Ceredigion Fairtrade Schools Project is a pilot project designed for a group of local Welsh primary schools to work together, through this dedicated website, to achieve Fairtrade status.
The most important aspect of the website is the password protected schools area that allows each school to chart its progress on its own webpage.
The healthy competition and camaraderie created by a group of schools working towards a shared goal motivates both pupils and teachers.
Communication between participants through the secure message board also allows schools to share good ideas, tackle local problems and work collectively when possible.
The website will also provide practical assistance to schools to help them meet the necessary criteria by providing a large range of resources customised for the locality and a timeline of targets.
The project includes ten schools: Comins Coch, Craig yr Wylfa, Cwmpadarn, Llangynfelyn, Llanilar, Llwyn-yr-Eos, Rhydypennau, St. Padarn, Talybont and Ysgol Gymraeg.
There is no better time for schools in Wales to become Fairtrade to help contribute to Wales’s ambition to become the first Fairtrade country in the world.
Achieving Fairtrade School status for the participating schools will certainly put them on the map for their unique achievement in the United Kingdom.
Imagine having 10 Fairtrade Schools in the Aberystwyth area by Fairtrade Fortnight 2008!
Ecodyfi manages the project and the co-ordinator is Diane Isenberg.
